Our History

He aha te mea nui ō te ao What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

We started helping people in 1986, with over 40+ years of service helping individuals with addiction. Located in Mt Eden Auckland, we promote abstinence from all mind-altering substances to enhance mana motukhake.

Utilising an adapted therapeutic community model – our counsellors apply a variety of evidenced-based models including:

  • Te Ao Marama
  • Motivational Enhancement
  • 12 Step Facilitation
  • Cognitive Behavioural approaches, including mindfulness

Our organisation is a unique treatment provider – and our firm boundaries have created safety and security (not often found in other programmes) – together have allowed us to support individuals at any stage of their recovery journey.

Our Mission: Recovery; living, loving, life, free from addiction

Wings Trust was started to help inspire clients to live the life they deserve. We encourage our people to put their best foot forward and live the life they have always wanted.

Using foundational tools, best-practice research and techniques and the support of the community & staff at Wings, we can set the base for individuals to start the change process.

Together through empowering individuals, providing them with a place to belong and supporting them to build long-lasting connections, individuals are able to make long-lasting changes in tackling addiction.

Working together – He mahi kotahi

We encourage all clients to participate in programme development at every opportunity.

The majority of our community, culture and expectations have been improved and initiated by prior and current residents, who take pride in making the programme better.

Wings Trust’s willingness to grow from feedback has helped to ensure all our programmes remain effective, relevant and innovative.
